“It’s a grey and rainy day…”

It’s a grey and rainy day
so we decide to stay home
we crawl out of bed late
we’re close on the couch with a coffee
we blow smoke into the room
she pushes her hair back from her face
we watch the rain wander
down the window
I watch her legs as she walks
across the floor for another cup
we hear the mournful strains
I hear my heart rejoice
content with
the shelter from the storm
the rain taps against the wooden walls
and our life is here
and we are alone
we’re together
it’s only us in the whole world

(from “Part Two: Rosie”)

Again: idyllic escapism. And again: the little things, the simple pleasures.
